Our knowledge of the role of proteins in cellular processes is continually evolving. Most proteins, including Ferritin are typically involved in one or more signaling pathways or biological processes. Professionally manufactured recombinant proteins are increasingly becoming essential and commonplace tools for elucidating new knowledge about the role of proteins in both health and disease.
Protein Type: Native
Grade: Highly purified
Contaminants: No contaminants detected
Biological Significance: Ferritin is an ubiquitous intracellular protein that stores iron and releases it in a controlled fashion. The protein is produced by almost all living organisms, including bacteria, algae and higher plants, and animals. In humans, it acts as a buffer against iron deficiency and iron overload. Ferritin is a globular protein complex consisting of 24 protein subunits and is the primary intracellular iron-storage protein in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes, keeping iron in a soluble and non-toxic form. Ferritin that is not combined with iron is called apoferritin.
Species: Human. Biohazard: Non-reactive for HIV-1, HCV, HBV, by NAT, HBsAg, HCV Ab, HIV 1&2 Ab and RPR by currently approved FDA methods.
Additional Remarks: Used for labeling, controls, and calibrators.
