Our knowledge of the role of proteins in cellular processes is continually evolving. Most proteins, including IGF BP3 are typically involved in one or more signaling pathways or biological processes. Professionally manufactured recombinant proteins are increasingly becoming essential and commonplace tools for elucidating new knowledge about the role of proteins in both health and disease.
Protein Type: Recombinant
Biological Significance: IGF-BP3 is a 30 kDa cysteine-rich secreted protein. It is the major IGF binding protein present in the plasma of human and animals and it is also found in a-granules of platelets. In addition to its ability to modulate the activity of IGF-I and IGF-II, IGF-BP3 exerts inhibitory effects on follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) activity. Decreased plasma levels of IGF-BP3 often results in dwarfism, whereas elevated levels of IGF-BP3 may lead to acromegaly. The expression of IGF-BP3 in fibroblasts is stimulated by mitogenic growth factors such as Bombesin, Vasopressin, PDGF, and EGF.
Bioactivity: The ED50 was determined by its ability to inhibit IGF-II induced proliferation of MCF-7. The expected ED50 for this effect is approximately 0.2 ug/ml in presence of 15 ng/ml of human IGF-II.
Endotoxin Levels: Endotoxin level is less than 0.1 ng per ug (1 EU/ug). Expression System: E Coli. Adenocarcinoma, Breast Neoplasms, Cardiovascular Diseases, Colorectal Neoplasms, Inflammation, Kidney Diseases, Liver Diseases, Lung Diseases, Prostatic Neoplasms, Weight Gain are some of the diseases may be linked to IGF BP3 protein. IGF BP3 also interacts with the following gene(s): ADAM12, IGF1, IGF2, IGFALS, MAPK8, MMP2, TP53. The following patways have been known to be associated with this gene. Blood, Bone, Brain, Connective Tissue, Kidney, Liver, Lung, Muscle, Prostate, Vascular tissues are correlated with this protein.
