Our knowledge of the role of proteins in cellular processes is continually evolving. Most proteins, including Factor IX are typically involved in one or more signaling pathways or biological processes. Professionally manufactured recombinant proteins are increasingly becoming essential and commonplace tools for elucidating new knowledge about the role of proteins in both health and disease.
Source Note: Human serum/plasma
Protein Type: Native
Biological Significance: The zymogen factor IX is a single chain vitamin K-dependent glycoprotein which is synthesized in the liver. The domain structure of factor IX is similar to that of the other vitamin K dependent coagulation factors. The NH2-terminal region contains 12 gama-carboxyglutamic acid (gla) residues which facilitate the calcium dependent binding of factor IX to negatively charged phospholipid surfaces.
Bioactivity: 258 units/mg protein - Specific activity is determined by the Factor IX clotting assay. One unit of activity is equivalent to the Factor IX activity in one milliliter of normal human plasma. Biohazard Information: Donor samples were tested and found to be negative for anti-HIV-1/2, HIV-1 antigen(s), HBsAg, STS, anti-HCV, anti-HBcore and anti-HTLV I & II. Nonetheless caution should be used when handling this material as there is a margin of error in all tests.
