The GLUL glul (Catalog #MBS601018) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Glutamine Synthetase reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat, Sheep and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. MyBioSource\'s Glutamine Synthetase can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EL/EIA), Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC).Suitable for use in ELISA, Western Blot and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications have not been tested
Dilution: Western Blot: 1:500. Detected Glutamine Synthetase on 10ug of human brain lysates. Single band in sheep and rat brain
Immunohistochemistry: Rat brain tissue. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the GLUL glul for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process.
The GLUL glul product has the following accession number(s) (GI #74271837) (NCBI Accession #NP_001028216.1) (Uniprot Accession #P15104). Researchers may be interested in using Bioinformatics databases such as those available at The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) website for more information about accession numbers and the proteins they represent. Even researchers unfamiliar with bioinformatics databases will find the NCBI databases to be quite user friendly and useful.

Please refer to the product datasheet for known applications of a given antibody. We\'ve tested the Glutamine Synthetase with the following immunoassay(s):
Western Blot (WB) (Western Blot Analysis: Representative lot data. Human brain lysate was resolved by electrophoresis, transferred to PVDF membrane and probed with MBS601018 (1:500). Proteins were visualized using an IgG (HRP) goat anti-mouse and a chemiluminescence detection system. Arrow indicates protein Glutamine synthetase (~44kD))
Western Blot (WB) (Western Blot Analysis: Representative image from a previous lot.: Human brain lysate (Lane 1) and Mouse brain membrane lysate (Lane 2) were resolved by electrophoresis, transferred to PVDF membrane and probed with MBS601018 (1:500)). Proteins were visualized using an IgG (HRP) goat anti-mouse and a chemiluminescence detection system. Arrow indicates protein Glutamine synthetase (~44kD))
Glutamine Synthetase catalyzes the conversion of ammonia and glutamate to glutamine. It is found in astrocytes as an octamer of identical 45kD subunits. The function of Glutamine Synthetase is the detoxification of brain ammonia. It also has an important role in the metabolic regulation of neurotransmitter glutamate. Because of the multiple functions and importance of Glutamine Synthetase in cellular metabolism, both catalytic activities and synthesis are highly regulated. The activity of Glutamine Synthetase is controlled by adenylylation. Its activity is decreased in the cerebral cortex of brains affected by Alzheimer\'s disease, particularly in the vicinity of senile plaques. It is also decreased under conditions of glucose deprivation. The level of expression of Glutamine Synthetase is increased during ischemia in vivo or hypoxia in culture.
Immunogen: Glutamine synthetase purified from sheep brain. Positive Control: Rat brain tissue, rat brain cytosolic fraction, human brain lysate. In general, we may offer more than one antibody to a given target to enable options for the researcher. Available antibodies recognizing GLUL are readily searchable from our website. Different antibodies against the same target such as GLUL may be optimized or tested for different applications and species. This enables researchers to select the option that may be best for their model system, to screen more than antibody to determine which one may be best for their model system, as well as to use more than one antibody to follow up on and validate their results.
