The GJA1 gja1 (Catalog #MBS502015) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-Phospho-Ser368 Connexin43 reacts with Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. MyBioSource\'s Connexin 43 (Ser368) can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB).Quality Control: Western blots performed on each lot.
WB: 1:1000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the GJA1 gja1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process.
The GJA1 gja1 product has the following accession number(s) (GI #6978896) (NCBI Accession #NP_036699.1) (Uniprot Accession #P08050). Researchers may be interested in using Bioinformatics databases such as those available at The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) website for more information about accession numbers and the proteins they represent. Even researchers unfamiliar with bioinformatics databases will find the NCBI databases to be quite user friendly and useful.

Please refer to the product datasheet for known applications of a given antibody. We\'ve tested the Anti-Phospho-Ser368 Connexin43 with the following immunoassay(s):
Testing Data
Affinity purified rabbit polyclonal antibody.
Antigen: Phosphopeptide corresponding to amino acid residues surrounding the phospho-Ser368 of rat connexin43.
Immunogen Information: Synthetic phospho-peptide corresponding to amino acid residues surrounding Ser368 conjugated to KLH
Immunogen Species: Rat. Reactivity Assumed Based on 100% Sequence Homology: Bovine, canine, chicken, guinea pig, human, mouse and zebra fish
Species Reactivity Note: The antibody has been directly tested for reactivity in Western blots with rat tissue. It is anticipated that the antibody will react with bovine, canine, chicken, guinea pig, human, mouse and zebra fish based on the fact that these species have 100% homology with the amino acid sequence used as antigen.
Biological Significance: Gap junctional intercellular communication is thought to play a key role in development and may also be involved in epilepsy (Aronica et al., 2001). Connexin43 forms gap-junctional channels and regulates the permeability of these gap junctions to small organic molecules. Permeability of connexin43 is known to be regulated by phosphorylation at Ser368 by protein kinase C (Yogo et al., 2002; Bao et al., 2004a). Phosphorylation of Ser368 by PKC induces a conformational change of connexin43 that results in a decrease in gap junction permeability (Bao et al., 2004b). In general, we may offer more than one antibody to a given target to enable options for the researcher. Available antibodies recognizing GJA1 are readily searchable from our website. Different antibodies against the same target such as GJA1 may be optimized or tested for different applications and species. This enables researchers to select the option that may be best for their model system, to screen more than antibody to determine which one may be best for their model system, as well as to use more than one antibody to follow up on and validate their results.
