The Bcan bcan (Catalog #MBS801850) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Brevican Antibody: HRP reacts with Rat, Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. MyBioSource\'s Brevican can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunocytochemistry (ICC), Western Blot (WB).1:1000 (WB). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the Bcan bcan for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process.
The Bcan bcan product has the following accession number(s) (GI #75992948) (NCBI Accession #NP_001028837.1) (Uniprot Accession #P55068). Researchers may be interested in using Bioinformatics databases such as those available at The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) website for more information about accession numbers and the proteins they represent. Even researchers unfamiliar with bioinformatics databases will find the NCBI databases to be quite user friendly and useful.

Please refer to the product datasheet for known applications of a given antibody. We\'ve tested the Brevican Antibody: HRP with the following immunoassay(s):
Western Blot (WB) (Western Blot analysis of Rat Brain Membrane showing detection of ~140 kDa Brevican protein using Mouse Anti-Brevican Monoclonal Antibody, Clone S294A-6. Lane 1: MW Ladder. Lane 2: Rat Brain Membrane (10 ug). Load: 10 ug. Block: 5% milk. Primary Antibody: Mouse Anti-Brevican Monoclonal Antibody at 1:1000 for 1 hour at RT. Secondary Antibody: Goat Anti-Mouse IgG: HRP at 1:200 for 1 hour at RT. Color Development: TMB solution for 10 min at RT. Predicted/Observed Size: ~140 kDa.)
Background Info: Detects ~140kDa (and smaller due to proteolytic cleavage)
Scientific Background: Brevican is the most abundant chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan in the extracellular matrix of the adult brain. It is a member of the lectican family of aggregating extracellular matrix proteoglycans that bear chondroitin sulfate (CS) chains. It is highly expressed in the central nervous system and is thought to stabilize synapses and inhibit neural plasticity. Brevican is secreted from astrocytes and neurons as a 145 kD core protein that bears up to three, covalently-linked, CS chains. It is also is secreted as a 145 kD core protein without CS chains. When cleaved by extracellular glutamyl endopeptidases, the ADAMTSs, a 55 kD N-terminal fragment is formed that contains the unique C terminal epitope EAMESE.
Conjugate: HRP. Storage Buffer: PBS pH7.4, 50% glycerol, 0.09% sodium azide. In general, we may offer more than one antibody to a given target to enable options for the researcher. Available antibodies recognizing Bcan are readily searchable from our website. Different antibodies against the same target such as Bcan may be optimized or tested for different applications and species. This enables researchers to select the option that may be best for their model system, to screen more than antibody to determine which one may be best for their model system, as well as to use more than one antibody to follow up on and validate their results.
