The AFP afp (Catalog #MBS150728) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AFP Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. MyBioSource\'s AFP can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA), Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC-P), Immunofluorescence (IF).AFP antibody can be used for detection of AFP by Western blot at 1 ug/mL. Antibody can also be used for immunohistochemistry starting at 10 ug/mL. For immunofluorescence start at 20 ug/mL.
Optimal dilutions for each application to be determined by the researcher. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the AFP afp for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process.
The AFP afp product has the following accession number(s) (GI #4501989) (NCBI Accession #NP_001125) (Uniprot Accession #P02771). Researchers may be interested in using Bioinformatics databases such as those available at The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) website for more information about accession numbers and the proteins they represent. Even researchers unfamiliar with bioinformatics databases will find the NCBI databases to be quite user friendly and useful.

AFP Antibody: Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is a major plasma protein produced by the yolk sac and the liver during fetal development. In adults, AFP expression is often associated with hepatoma or teratoma. However, hereditary persistance of AFP may also be found in individuals with no obvious pathology. AFP is thought to be the fetal counterpart of serum albumin, and the AFP and albumin genes are present in tandem in the same transcriptional orientation on chromosome 4. AFP is found in monomeric as well as dimeric and trimeric forms, and binds copper, nickel, fatty acids and bilirubin. AFP levels in amniotic fluid is used to measure renal loss of protein to screen for spina bifida and anencephaly.
Conjugate: Unconjugated
Immunogen: AFP antibody was raised against a 14 amino acid synthetic peptide near the amino terminus of human AFP. The immunogen is located within amino acids 340-390 of AFP.
Buffer: AFP Antibody is supplied in PBS containing 0.02% sodium azide.
Homology: Predicted species reactivity based on immunogen sequence: Pig: (91%)
